Welcome to the first I.S.U. on measurements. You will be learning on your own about two-dimensional and three-dimensional measurements of various polygons and composite figures.
To do well on the I. S. U. test in November, it is important that you view all math videos, take good notes, read all posted ebook examples, do all listed exercises, and complete every single online quiz. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact me via the contact page which will forward your inquiry to my personal email account. You must also attend the after school tutorial classes to get prepared for the test. Good Luck! |
Independent Study Unit #1 - Measurements
After completing this online measurement unit, you should be able to:
- break down 2-D composite shapes into basic 2-D shapes such as triangles, rectangles, circles, or trapezoids.
- solve problems involving optimizing measurements of rectangles (maximize area and minimize perimeter).
- solve problems involving the areas and perimeters of 2-D composite shapes.
- develop, through investigation, the formulas for the volume of a pyramid, a cone, and a sphere.
- determine, through investigation, the relationship for calculating the surface area of a square-based pyramid.
- solve problems involving the surface areas and volumes of prisms, pyramids, cylinders, cones, and spheres.
- break down 3-D composite figures into basic 3-D solids such as prisms, pyramids, cylinders, cones and spheres.
